HB 520 is on the move!

After an astoundingly successful Lobby For Midwives Day, HB 520 Georgia Licensed Midwife Act received a bill number and was placed in the Public and Community Health Committee. It was determined that this committee was not the most fair place for our bill to be worked on, so our sponsor called for a vote to move committees. We did win the vote, but not all Representatives voted favorably for our bill to move. See how YOUR Representative voted here. Contact your Representative and urge them to support HB520.

We now have an opportunity for our first hearing in the House Health Committee. This committee has been tasked with exploring our bill to make sure it is good for Georgia. It is important that we have support from the community present. If desired, you may also have opportunity to give a public testimony to why you think midwives should be licensed. This could include the care you have received from a midwife or how there were too many barriers to accessing care. It is your story to share!

Even if you do not want to speak, we need people showing support, so please come if you are able!

Can’t come? Support midwifery licensure with a donation!

We are working hard to secure the future of direct-entry midwifery in Georgia. Our goal is that with midwifery licensure, we can attract more midwives and change the birth narrative! We need your help! Passing legislation is very expensive. By the time we are done we will have spent $100,000 on lobbying efforts for licensure. Please consider donating today!
